Wages in Poland

The Republic of Poland or Poland alone is a country located in Central Europe and borders Germany (to the west), the Czech Republic and Slovakia (to the south), Ukraine, Belarus and Lithuania (to the east) and Russia (Kaliningrad Oblast, to the north). To the north there is an outlet to the Baltic Sea with a total length of coastline 524 km. The capital of Poland is Warsaw, and the population of the country is 38,179,800 inhabitants. Mainly citizens of countries bordering the east of Poland are interested in migration in the country. Let’s consider in detail, the minimum and average wages, pay by professions and regions, taxes on wages and living costs.

Minimum wage

It is easiest to find a job at the minimum wage. In 2023, the minimum wage will be increased in two stages, in January 2023 it will be 3,490 zlotys (785 euros), and in July 2023 it will be 3,600 zlotys (810 euros) and the minimum hourly wage will be 22.80 zlotys (5.1 euros) and 23.5 zlotys (5.3 euros) respectively.

However, the most interesting are the indicators of the average salary. There are no constant values here, but there are large differences depending on region, industry, etc.

Average salary

Using the official parameters at the time of publication, you can find general data on the wage economy in Poland for foreigners and citizens of the country:

Beginning of 2023 – 7065.56 zlotys (1 589 euros).

Even on the basis of these parameters alone, a decent increase in average wages can be found. However, local and industrial differences are considerable.

It is also necessary to understand that we are talking about averages in the economy, and therefore multimillennial salaries at the management level are also involved in the calculations. In addition, we remind you that the specified parameters are gross and with 7065 zlotys (1 589 euros) before deductions you will be able to get 5362 zlotys (1 206 euros).

According to official statistics, more than two-thirds of workers in Poland earn less than the average in the economy.

Moreover, the value of the average wage is not constant.

Salaries by occupation

Salaries in Poland differ significantly by profession. For example, the average salary of a welder is 4,000 zlotys, but if you get a job at a leading company, you can get up to six euros per hour.

The highest salaries can be obtained in large cities in Poland, such as Warsaw, Krakow, Gdańsk, Wrocław, but the cost of living in large cities is also high. Majors related to IT, finance, energy, insurance receive a large salary. People earn the least from ordinary work that does not require special knowledge and qualifications – in factories, in the agricultural sector. Knowledge of the Polish language will have a positive effect on the salary.

Payroll taxes

Taxes are levied by the state every month as an advance payment, and employers control the charging of tax liabilities.

In Poland, both Polish citizens and foreigners officially employed in the enterprises of the Republic of Poland are taxed.

Social security contributions are deducted from the gross salary: social (pension – 9.76%, rent – 1.5%, sick – 2.45%) and medical – 9%. An income tax of 18% is also levied.

The average amount spent on various payments is about 27%
